Days of Robotics in Zambia: Next-Generation Engineering Technologies

From 11 to 13 November, Days of Robotics and Innovative Educational Technologies in Africa will take place in Lusaka, Zambia – a major international event aimed at developing engineering education, strengthening cooperation in educational technologies, and exchanging advanced practices between Zambia and Russia

The event will be held at the Russian House in Lusaka. Participants will include school students, university students, teachers from educational institutions, representatives of relevant ministries, as well as experts in education, engineering, and digitalization.

The program covers key areas in robotics, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Over the course of three days, practical workshops will be held in computer science, programming, mathematics, mechanics, and robotics, along with case studies for preparation for olympiads and competitions, as well as interactive sessions. Upon completion of the event, all participants will receive certificates.

As part of the project, an interactive map of Russian universities offering engineering program will be presented, along with an exhibition space showcasing robotics exhibits and Russian educational and cultural VR projects.

The event is organized by Rossotrudnichestvo and Southwest State University (Kursk, Russia).

On October 7, the Russian House in Lusaka took another group of curious young people on a virtual trip to the city of Samara!

Samara lies on the banks of the Volga River, one of the symbols of Russia, affectionately called by Russians as Mother Volga. So, it came as no surprise that we began our sightseeing tour along the beautiful Volga embankment.
A visit to Samara State Medical University was also high on the agenda.

Participants learned about the variety of programmes available to international students and explored the opportunities the university offers to future medical professionals.

No trip to Samara would be complete without a visit to the Samara Cosmos Museum and the Samara Arena, which hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

But the cherry on top was our virtual visit to the village of Shiryaevo, famous for its annual Cherry Pie Festival!

Русский дом в Лусаке приглашает русскоязычное сообщество, проживающее в Замбии, принять участие во II Всероссийской премии в области исторического просвещения молодёжи «Голос истории».

Премия объединяет людей и проекты, которые помогают молодому поколению узнавать и понимать историю России, сохранять историческую память и находить современные и интересные формы рассказа о прошлом.

🌍 Для участников из иностранных государств предусмотрена специальная номинация — «Лучший зарубежный проект об истории России».

К участию приглашаются:
— граждане иностранных государств в возрасте от 12 лет;
— иностранные организации;
— авторские коллективы, состоящие из граждан иностранных государств.

Это может быть образовательный, культурный, музейный, медийный или исследовательский проект, книга, фильм, выставка, лекционный цикл, просветительская инициатива или другой проект, посвящённый истории России.

Особенно интересно будет увидеть проекты, которые позволяют рассказывать об истории России людям в Замбии, знакомить с российским культурным и историческим наследием молодое поколение и укреплять связи между нашими странами.

🏆 Победители зарубежной номинации получат возможность приехать в Москву и принять участие в церемонии награждения.

👩‍🏫 On International Teachers’ Day, the Russian House in Lusaka held a Round Table dedicated to the work and legacy of the prominent Soviet educator Anton Makarenko.

The participants not only learned about the revolutionary approaches to education and the rehabilitation of orphaned and troubled young people introduced by this outstanding educator, but also had a chance to put his ideas into practice.

💡 During an engaging case study, participants were presented with challenging situations and discussed how Makarenko might have approached them — from discipline and responsibility to teamwork and the role of the collective in personal development.

🎭 The session turned out to be even more interactive and engaging than expected, thanks to the creativity and enthusiasm of the students of the Russian language course, who helped bring Makarenko’s ideas to life in a fun and thought-provoking way.

📚 A great reminder that the ideas of an educator from the past can still inspire discussion about education and human development today!

Dear Zambian teachers, we warmly congratulate you on your professional holiday - World Teachers’ Day - and sincerely thank our Zambian partners for their continued and systematic support of Zambia’s education sector!

At the invitation of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Zambia, Svetlana Kovaleva, Head of the Russian House in Lusaka, took part in the celebrations of International Teachers’ Day, which brought together educators from different provinces across the country.

The participants proceeded in a ceremonial march from the University of Zambia to one of the country’s most beloved exhibition venues - Show Grounds, where an awards ceremony was held to honour teachers representing different generations and areas of the teaching profession.

The participation of the Russian House in Lusaka in this event was, on the one hand, a great honour and a sign of high recognition from the Zambian side, and on the other, a result of the many years of development of Russian-Zambian cooperation in the field of education.

“Today, the Russian House has definitely become part of a large family in which Zambian teachers work every day to lay the foundations for the country’s future by providing children with quality school education, while Russia helps talented graduates take the next step - to receive professional education and become highly qualified specialists,” said S. Kovaleva.

On 3 October, Russia was represented at the Diplomatic Fun Fair in Lusaka.

The Russian stand was organised by the Russian House in Lusaka and was dedicated to three main themes: education, sport and Russian traditions.

🎓 The education section presented the Russian Engineering School and the Russian Government Scholarship Programme, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about studying in Russia. Consultations on educational opportunities in Russia were provided practically without a break throughout the entire event.

🥊 The sport section featured the Punching Challenge project and chess. The digital punching bag immediately attracted the attention of visitors, while the Russian Engineering School and the Chess Club kept them engaged, with some visitors staying at the stand for an hour or even longer. At the chess table, players were constantly challenging one another, with games taking place throughout the event.

🇷🇺 The third theme was Russian traditions, represented through a display of Russian decorative and applied arts, showcasing traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

The interest in the Russian stand remained consistently high throughout the eight-hour event. There was not a single moment when fewer than four or five visitors were present at the stand at the same time. Based on this continuous flow, the total attendance at the stand was estimated at no fewer than 2,500 visitors.

The Russian presence at the fair was also reflected on the main stage, where a creative group made up of talented young Zambians presented a performance for the audience.

The Guest of Honour, Evans Muhanga, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, visited the Russian stand and even took part in the Punching Challenge, putting his punching power to the test.

About the film
Pyatigorsk, at the foot of Mount Mashuk, morning of 15 July 1841.

A fateful conflict, a premonition of the inevitable and the majestic Caucasus - a story of the poet’s final hours, where fate, friendship and tragedy intertwine.

The screening of Russian films is organised as part of ROSKINO’s KINODIPLOMACY project, implemented in countries around the world with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

STUDY IN RUSSIA: ALUMNI STORIES

The Russian House in Lusaka hosted another Study in Russia: Alumni Stories session featuring Dr. Allan Tembo (PhD), an agronomist and Senior Lecturer at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).

A graduate of three Russian universities, Dr. Tembo shared his journey from studying in Russia to building a career in agriculture, education, research and public administration in Zambia.

The interactive session explored his experiences as a Zambian student in Russia, the impact of Russian education on his professional career, and opportunities for strengthening Zambia–Russia cooperation in agriculture, education and research.

We sincerely thank Dr. Allan Tembo for sharing his valuable experiences and insights, and all the participants who joined us in person and online, asked questions and contributed to the lively discussion.
