On October 3, the BRICS Chess Tournament was held at the Russian House in New Delhi.
The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, Indian public circles, the chess community, as well as Indian schoolchildren and university students, young athletes, and chess enthusiasts.
Welcoming remarks were delivered to the participants and guests by R.N. Babushkin, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India; A.A. Dodonov, Director of the Russian House in New Delhi; H.E. Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of India; and A K Verma, Chief Executive Officer of the All India Chess Federation.
As part of the tournament’s cultural programme, a screening of a film dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro was held.
The programme continued with the official opening of the chess tournament at the M.M. Botvinnik Chess Academy at the Russian House in New Delhi. Young chess enthusiasts competed at the chessboards, demonstrating their skill, deep interest in the game, and genuine sporting spirit.
The programme concluded with an award ceremony, during which the best-performing participants received certificates of honour and commemorative gifts.
